Our Bursary / Scholarship Programme
Apparently the Uganda ratio of extension worker to farming households stands at 1:1800. The internationally acceptable ratio is 1:500 and this seems to be one of the contributing factors responsible for poor performance of agricultural sector in the country especially the northern part. As African Institute we are trying to increase the number of agricultural professionals among our community by offering few slots of scholarship to different regions of the country. In Acholi sub-region, we are partnering with different chiefdoms and awarding at least 10 slots of scholarship per chiefdom to ensure we have an even distribution of these professionals. In other sub-regions in northern Uganda, we are working with the office of the LCIII to achieve this goal. It is expected that, increasing the number of agricultural professionals will in turn increases agricultural extension services among our community, hence increasing farm productivity, minimizing food insecurity, facilitating access to markets and trade, expanding on-farm and off-farm employment, increasing farm revenue as well as reducing poverty in the country. Each year, African Institute always receives UGX55 million less in its annual revenue collection in order to meet the target of this scholarship. Our scholarship programs align to the Institution’s values of creating and sharing new knowledge; embracing and celebrating diversity of people, creating economic sustainability and future prosperity. Many of our scholarships support to students have been created with the heart of generosity, equality and community transformation. We strongly believe everyone born in this world deserves the chance to pursue their dreams and achieve a better life for their families. If you are interested in this scholarship and you come from Acholi sub-region, you visit your chiefdom on how to go about it and if you come from other region in northern Uganda, you visit your LCIII
